Unveiled in March 2019, the production of the
Tesla Model Y started in January 2020 at its Fermont plant and the deliveries
started in mid-March 2020. While Tesla has another SUV in its lineup, like the
bigger crossover SUV, the Tesla Model X with a starting price of $85,000. This
price tag makes the car unaffordable for most buyers (almost all, baring a few
with a six-digit salary). Tesla attains its majority sales from Model 3 and
Model S sedans.
Safety
The latest model from Tesla is designed to be
the safest vehicle in its class with large crumple zones, low center of
gravity, and a rigid body structure. It has cameras mounted on the rear, side,
and at the front of the car for an autopilot that provides 360o visibility.
Ultrasonic sensors that detect cars nearby, prevent potential collisions, and
assist in parking.
Interior
The car has a giant 15-inch touch-screen that
receives regular over-the-air updates for better performance, features, and
functionality. The Extensive Glass Sunroof provides UV protection and makes the
cabin feel airier. The Tesla Model Y typically seats 5 people in 2 rows. Tesla
has also hinted at a 7 seater version of the Model Y. There is a possibility
that the company could launch a 3rd-row seating optional upgrade which will make
the Model Y more practical.

Supercharging capability is also available for both the models which give the car a range of 158 miles with charging for just 15 mins. Looking at the size of the car and considering the fact that it’s an all-wheel-drive crossover SUV which is as long as the BMW X3, getting that timing from a family car is quite impressive!
