People had to spend big bucks and stretch
their budget to buy a Mercedes Benz earlier in the day for a luxury car that
felt premium, well built, and was solidly engineered. Skoda changed that image
which made it an aspirational car maker a number of years ago. However, the
brand suffered a blow to its image due to its after-sales service which is now
in amends. Their product lineup stagnated over the years into just 4 products,
which is fortunately all set to change. Though the big revolution is all set to
happen next year in 2021, the revolution has started right away with the new
Skoda Karoq.
In Skoda India’s lineup, the Karoq will sit
below the Skoda Kodiaq and above the Hyundai rival that is due in 2021. The car
will, however, will be a full CBU (Completely Built Unit) import which means
that it will attract higher import duties and will suggest a higher price tag
than the size of the car. The car-size is similar to that of the Kia Seltos,
the price tag will make it a rival of the Jeep Compass.
The car has the understated elegance that
people like from the brand with looks similar to that of the Kodiaq but with
more conventional SUV proportions. The front of the car is simple and has a
neat look with the grill and projector lamps while the side of the car
showcases character lines with sharp diamond cut allow wheels. The rear gets
large Skoda badging across the tail (which is now becoming common with car
manufacturers these days) with good looking well-shaped tail lamps. The boot
has a capacity of 520 litres that has levers that drop the seat with just one
pull with some ‘Simply Clever’ touches like the magnetised LED light for a
change of tyre in the dark or the bag hooks or velcro luggage separators.
The back seat of the car has just enough space
for a person a little above the average sub-continent height to seat
comfortably with an upright seat. The car comes with a massive panoramic
sunroof paired with the quarter glasses let in a lot of sunlight and offer an
airy cabin. The front of the car feels premium with a high-quality level and
comes with brushed aluminium finish and chrome used around the cabin in the
perfect places. It comes with a digital instrument cluster, electric
driver-adjustable seats and loads of storage spaces. It is packed with safety
features like parking sensors (front + rear), a rearview camera, driver fatigue
monitor, ABS with EBD, ESC, and 9 airbags. Now that we have covered how the car
looks and feels, we shall cover that driving part sometime later in our next
blog.
